The State Statistics Committee (Rosstat) said industrial output grew 0.9% in June 2008 compared with June 2007.
Manufacturing industries made the biggest contribution to industrial output growth in the first six months of 2008. In particular, meat production in Russia grew 14.1% in the reporting period to 1.4 million metric tons while the output of meat products increased 11.7% to 650,000 metric tons, Rosstat said.
The fastest growth in the mining sector was demonstrated by the coal industry where production expanded 6.1% to 161 million metric tons. The production of oil, including gas condensate, declined 0.6%, year-on-year, in January-June 2008 to 242 million metric tons (1.77 billion barrels), while natural gas production grew 1.7% to 339 billion cu m, Rosstat said.
