NOVOSIBIRSK, July 17 (RIA Novosti) - A newborn baby suffered eyesight damage after a nurse in the southwest Siberian city of Omsk accidentally poured glue into her eyes instead of eye drops, prosecutors announced on Thursday.
The mix-up occurred in late May after "someone" at a local hospital poured glue into an empty eye drops container and put it into a refrigerator containing medicine. The nurse then poured the 'eye drops' into the baby's eyes.
The baby was subsequently diagnosed at a local hospital with "burns of the eyelids and the cornea." Doctors managed to save the girl's eyesight, although vision was severely reduced in one of them.
The nurse was fired, and a decision whether or not to bring criminal charges against her will be taken by July 24. She could face up to five years behind bars.
