Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on Thursday for the country's law enforcement agencies to step up their work in the sphere of IT security.
PETROZAVODSK, July 17 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on Thursday for the country's law enforcement agencies to step up their work in the sphere of IT security.

Medvedev chaired a meeting of the State Council to tackle the implementation of a strategy for IT development in Russia.

"Every user without exception should be allowed to work in safety. State, commercial and private secrets must be able to be maintained. Law enforcement agencies should step up their work in this sphere," the president said.

Medvedev added it would be necessary to improve telecom infrastructure, including efforts to develop civilian telecom and broadcasting satellites.

The president also proposed introducing national standards for the IT sphere.

"We should draw up and adopt such standards for all key spheres, including for the package of TV and radio broadcasting services, and IT equipment for healthcare, education and communal spheres," he said.

Urgent efforts should also be made to save and protect state archives, Medvedev said.
