MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - Three traffic police officers were killed and a civilian injured when attacked by unidentified gunmen in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Karachai-Circassia, a local police source said on Friday.
Gunmen opened fire at the officers in a cafe in the city of Karachayevsk on Thursday, a police officer told RIA Novosti.
"The traffic police officers died immediately. The attackers seized two standard-issue Makarov pistols with 32 rounds. The injured man was hospitalized," he said.
Russia's Caucasus provinces have been plagued by violence, both stemming from criminal feuds and spilling over from Chechnya, which saw two separatist wars with Russian federal troops in the 1990s.
