MOSCOW, August 13 (RIA Novosti) - The United States will deport to Russia on Wednesday a Russian national accused of economic crimes, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office said.
According to Russian prosecutors, Alexei Savgira forged documents in May 1997 to conclude several contracts totaling more than 10 billion non-redenominated rubles (then worth around $1.5 million) on the delivery of sugar with the Russian Volga Republic of Tatarstan. After receiving payment, the suspect went into hiding.
After he was tracked down in the United States, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office issued a request to the U.S. for the suspect's extradition.
