KRASNOYARSK, September 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russian law enforcement officers have seized 107 kg (236 lbs) of heroin in the East Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, a spokeswoman for the local FSB department said Monday.
"The largest-ever batch of Afghani heroin was seized with a total weight of approximately 107 kg, equal to the annual heroin consumption of the region and worth some 250 million rubles ($1 million)," she said.
Five drug traffickers were detained in a joint operation of the Federal Security Service (FSB), local police and the drug control department.
A criminal case was launched, with the detainees facing up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
