MAKHACHKALA, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - Ten militants have been killed in a counter-terrorist operation in southern Daghestan, an FSB source said Wednesday.
A Federal Security Service (FSB) officer was killed in the shootout.
The source said the militants were members of the militant group led by Emirbek Ragimkhanov, who was killed along with the so-called "emir of Daghestan," Ilgar Malachiyev, in a special operation on September 8.
The operation is ongoing and a search for any remaining militants is underway.
Sporadic terrorist attacks and militant clashes are common in the Russian republics of Ingushetia and Daghestan, and in neighboring Chechnya, although the Kremlin has ended its campaign to fight separatists and terrorists there.
