MOSCOW, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's foreign minister is due to arrive in Kazakhstan on Wednesday to meet with the country's president and foreign minister, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

During the three-day visit, Sergei Lavrov is due to meet with Nursultan Nazarbayev and take part in the Asia Cooperation Dialogue ministerial meeting on Thursday and in a forum of Western and Muslim foreign ministers - One World: progress through diversity - in the Kazakhstan capital, Astana.

Kazakh Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin, who earlier this year paid a visit to Moscow, described bilateral ties between Russia and Kazakhstan: "Our relations with Russia are excellent ... and Russia is our strategic partner."

In January-July this year, trade between Russia and Kazakhstan reached around $12 billion, a 30% rise year-on-year, Andrei Nesterenko said.

Russia and the Central Asian republic cooperate in transport and energy, space and the exploration of the Caspian Sea. Russia has leased the Baikonur space center from Kazakhstan since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

At present, the two countries are working to build a space complex at Baikonur, Baiterek, to launch Angara carrier rockets capable of delivering 26 metric tons of payload into low-Earth orbits. The project is being implemented on a parity basis and enjoys tax, customs and other privileges.

Kazakhstan was the first country Russia's leader Dmitry Medvedev visited in late May as president.
