GROZNY, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - Three militants including a ring leader have been killed in a special police operation in the Chechen capital, a local police source said on Tuesday.
"Police and FSB operatives killed late on Monday three militants in the Leninsky district of Grozny, including Beslan Bekmurzayev," the source told RIA Novosti.
According to police, the militants were surrounded in a car near a hideout but refused to surrender and opened fire on the operatives.
No casualties have been reported among the police officers. Two Makarov pistols and ammunition were seized by police at the scene.
Bekmurzayev, who called himself the "emir" of Grozny, had been on the federal wanted list since 2000 for committing serious crimes including the murder of a police officer and civilians, and a number of other sabotage and terrorist acts.
