NOVOSIBIRSK, December 11 (RIA Novosti) - Drug police have seized 133 kilograms (293 lbs) of heroin from three drug dealers in the West Siberian city of Omsk, a spokeswoman for the Russian Drug Control Service said on Thursday.
The drug haul has an estimated street value of more than 300 million rubles ($11 million).
"In total, three people were detained: the man who brought the heroin to Omsk via Kazakhstan, and two other men of Tajik origin," Tamara Roschina said, adding that one of them had a Russian citizenship.
She said 65 kg of heroin were first discovered in three bags in a car on Sunday. Later police found more heroin of Afghan origin in a garage that had been used by the dealers to store drugs.
Police said a major drug trafficking network had been uncovered.
Narcotics trafficking is an acute problem for Russia, where drug use has increased almost tenfold since 1990. Up to 30,000 drug-related deaths are recorded in the country each year.
