MOSCOW, December 22 (RIA Novosti) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, currently on a visit to Russia, will discuss establishing a unified government and aid to the Palestinians on Monday, a Kremlin official said.

Abbas, who visited Russia troubled North Caucasus Republic of Chechnya at the weekend, is due to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for the first time. It is the second visit to Russia this year by Abbas who was last in Moscow in April.

"During the upcoming visit to Moscow on December 22 issues of starting bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on aid required to ensure a resolution of the most pressing tasks for the Palestinians - a unified strong and effective government, state institutions, overcoming the acute social-economic problems - will be discussed in-depth at the highest level," the official said.

He also said that particular focus would be given to supporting the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and finding a resolution to internal Palestinian conflict.

He also said the recently established Russian-Palestinian business council played a key role in developing mutual trade and economic investment, which would also be on the agenda during the Palestinian leaders visit.

Russia, who along with the EU, UN and the United States is a member of the Middle East Quartet, urged on Friday the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, to reconsider its decision to end a six-month ceasefire with Israel.

"We believe it is essential for Hamas to reconsider its decision to end the truce," Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said. "The decision could lead to new victims and suffering among the civilian population."
