MOSCOW, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - Police have detained three suspects for the brutal murder of five homeless people in the town of Zvenigorod near Moscow, a Moscow Region police source said on Thursday.
"Officers investigating the crime detained three unemployed residents from Zvenigorod on Wednesday on suspicion of the killing of two women and three men, whose bodies were discovered Tuesday," the source said adding that an argument was thought to have been the catalyst for the violent attack.
The victims' bodies, believed to have been homeless, were found late on Tuesday by firefighters who had attended a fire in a nearby building. The victims had been killed approximately 48 hours earlier.
Forensics experts established that all the victims had been hacked to death with a sharp instrument, probably an axe.
