MOSCOW, December 31 (RIA Novosti) - A real estate agency director has been robbed of 1.4 million rubles ($47,650) in a traffic accident in central St. Petersburg, a police source in Russia's second largest city said on Wednesday.

"Two persons driving a Volvo and a Jeep deliberately caused a traffic accident with an Infinity car driven by a company director, after which they grabbed a briefcase with a large amount of money from the car and escaped," the source said.

The robbery happened on Tuesday evening, he said, adding that the perpetrators had not been caught.

Traffic scams are not uncommon in large Russian cities. Typically, an unsuspecting driver will be drawn into an accident that he may feel was his fault, and the culprits then use distraction, sleight of hand or force to steal from their victim.
