KALININGRAD, March 20 (RIA Novosti) - An Uzbek national was murdered on Friday afternoon in the western Russian city of Kaliningrad, a spokeswoman for the local investigation department said.

"An unknown man stabbed an Uzbek national, who worked at a construction site, to death," Marianna Andryushina said. "He inflicted at least nine stab wounds to him."

A search for the suspect is ongoing. Police are not ruling out that the attack was a race-hate assault, but other motives are also being checked.

Attacks on foreigners and ethnic minorities are a regular occurrence in Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as other Russian cities.
