MOSCOW, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - There are no plans for bilateral Iranian-U.S. talks at the conference on Afghanistan currently being held in Moscow, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Akhundzadeh told journalists on Friday.

"We are here only to discuss Afghanistan's problems," Iran's representative at the conference told reporters when asked about talks with the United States.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization's International Conference on Afghanistan opened earlier on Friday with the aim of improving coordination of international efforts to counter terrorism and drug trafficking in the restive Central Asian state.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said Moscow was not aware of any planned talks but added that dialogue between U.S. and Iranian officials would "help ease tension around Iran as well as the situation in the region as a whole."
