MOSCOW, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - The lawyer for Irina Belenkaya, involved in a "tug of love" dispute with her French husband for custody of their daughter, will travel to Budapest on Wednesday to discuss an amicable agreement.

"We agreed that I should fly to Budapest on May 6 to come to an agreement with Irina on points in the civil agreement that has been presented to us. The same points will be offered to Jean-Michel Andre," Anatoly Kucherena told journalists in Moscow.

Irina Belenkaya's lawyer said a number of agreements have been drawn up for the French-Russian couple. Kucherena said however some "technical problems" were hampering a swift resolution to the dispute.

"As Irina Belenkaya is currently in jail, we are experiencing specific problems that are preventing us from solving those issues, which may come up during the drafting of the civil agreement," he said.

A source in Moscow's law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti the criminal case against Belenkaya, who is currently in a Hungarian jail for kidnapping her 3-year-old daughter Elise Andre, could be dropped if the parents agreed to sign the deal.

The French lawyer for Belenkaya said the conflict could be resolved within several weeks. "I am reluctant to name the exact terms but I think that in the near future, in several weeks the issue will be resolved satisfactorily," Gregoire Rincourt said.

The couple has been embroiled in a bitter custody battle resulting in Elise being "kidnapped" back and forth three times in the past two years. Andre was awarded custody by a French court after their divorce in 2007.

Elise is currently with her father in France.
