ROSTOV-ON-DON, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - The president of the south Russian republic of Ingushetia, who was severely wounded in a recent assassination attempt, is showing signs of recovery, the leader's press secretary said on Sunday.
Yunus-bek Yevkurov suffered serious head and internal injuries on Monday when his motorcade was hit by an explosion believed to have been detonated by a suicide bomber. He was airlifted to Moscow after undergoing surgery in Ingushetia.
"The doctors are correcting the medical treatment course, and are doing everything possible," Kaloi Akhilgov told RIA Novosti over the phone.
On Saturday Yevkurov's driver, Ramzan Yevkurov, died in an Ingushetian hospital.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has urged the country's security forces to crack down on those behind the assassination attempt.
"I would like you to report to me what has been done and what we are going to do in the near future to deal the correct blow in response," Medvedev said during a meeting with Russian Security Council members at his Black Sea residence on Saturday.
