MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) - Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov is preparing to return to work a little over a month after surviving an assassination attempt.
Yevkurov, who turns 46 today, received serious head and internal injuries when a car bomb exploded as his motorcade passed by on June 22, and underwent a series of operations at a top Moscow clinic.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called the Ingush leader to congratulate him on his birthday, Russian presidential press secretary Natalya Timakova said.
Medvedev, who has visited Yevkurov in hospital several times, expressed his hopes that the Ingush president would soon be well enough to return to work. Yevkurov said he was recovering and hoped to be back at work soon.
Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus regions have seen a rise in violence in recent months. Attacks on police, officials and troops have been reported almost daily in Ingushetia and Dagestan.
