MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Moldova's outgoing president will arrive in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi on August 21 for talks with his Russian counterpart, the Kremlin announced on Thursday.
"Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will meet with Vladimir Voronin on the same day in Sochi," the press release said.
Moldova's newly elected parliament is set to hold its first session on August 28 to elect a new president to replace Voronin, who leads the Communist Party. Voronin is forbidden by the constitution from standing for a third consecutive term.
Four pro-Western parties that hold an overall majority in the chamber following last month's election agreed earlier this month to form a coalition, and have pledged major reforms to bring the impoverished post-Soviet country closer to Europe.
The nation has been caught in a political standoff since April, when the Communist Party's re-election sparked mass protests amid allegations of ballot fraud. However, European observers said the vote was largely free and fair.
Moldova's parliament subsequently failed twice to chose a president, resulting in new elections, held on July 29.
