MOSCOW, September 29 (RIA Novosti) - Up to five people could have been involved in the recent murder of a Dagestani district administrator in Moscow, a top special investigations committee official said on Tuesday.
Alimsultan Alkhamatov, 44, head of the republic's Khasavyurt District, which borders on Chechnya, was gunned down in southwest Moscow at about 8:15 p.m. (16:15 GMT) on Sunday.
"One person has been detained. He is an accomplice. We are looking for another three or four people," said Anatoly Bagmet.
He added that a massive manhunt was underway, but refused to elaborate.
A total of six automatic weapons were found near the crime scene.
Police detained Khabir Budaikhanov, the driver of a getaway car, shortly after the attack. A Moscow borough court on Tuesday granted a police request to remand Budaikhanov in custody.
While attacks on troops, police and other officials have been a daily occurrence in Dagestan and Russia's other mainly Muslim North Caucasus republics in recent months, the violence rarely spills over into the capital.
