MOSCOW, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday offered President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, the Kremlin press service said.
Medvedev condemned Sunday's terrorist attack in Iran and expressed condolences to the victims.
"We believe that the fight against the threat of terrorism and extremism - wherever they originate from - requires a pooling of efforts by all countries. We are ready to cooperate with Iran in countering these threats," he said.
A suicide bomb attack on the Revolutionary Guards in the country's volatile southeast Sunday killed between 42 and 49, according to different sources. Several commanders of the elite force died in the attack.
Dozens of people were injured in the attack, which took place in the city of Pisheen, in Sistan-Baluchistan Province near the border with Pakistan.
Iranian state media said a Sunni insurgent group, Jundallah, claimed responsibility for the attack.
