MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - The number of people diagnosed with swine flu in Russia has risen to 956, a deputy health minister said on Wednesday.
"A total of 956 cases have been officially confirmed across Russia. 60% of infections were registered in people who had traveled abroad," Veronika Skvortsova said in an interview with the Moscow-based Ekho Moskvy radio.
No one has died from the virus in Russia.
Four vaccines have already been registered in Russia, the deputy health minister said, adding that an immunization campaign was due to start in the country in December.
On Monday, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin approved the allocation of 4 billion rubles ($136 million) for the purchase of swine flu vaccines.
According to the World Health Organization, as of October 11 there were more than 399,000 laboratory confirmed cases of swine flu throughout the world, with over 4,735 deaths.
Large-scale immunization campaigns aimed at fighting swine flu are underway in the United States and Japan.
