YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian coast guard has detained a Cambodian-flagged vessel with 18 metric tons of snow crab on board in the Sea of Okhotsk, a spokesman for the regional Coast Guard said on Thursday.
The Lucky Catch was detained off Sakhalin Island in Russia's Far East on Wednesday afternoon as it was illegally crabbing in Russia's exclusive economic zone.
"Crabbing equipment and some 18 metric tons of live snow crab caught without permission were found on board," the spokesperson said.
Russia's coast guard is actively involved in tackling poachers in its territorial waters. Last year at least 20 ships, including many foreign vessels, were detained.
