Swiss prosecutors have pressed charges against a suspected Russian drink driver who recently caused a serious traffic accident near Geneva, the Tribune de Geneve said on Friday.
The newspaper said 22-year-old Ziya Babayev, the son of a successful Russian businessman, had been charged with involuntary infliction of bodily harm, speeding and driving without a valid license.
Babayev and three other Russians were allegedly involved in a drunken high-speed car race on a highway by Lake Geneva last week.
The race saw four Russians race a Lamborghini, a Bugatti, a Mercedes and a Porsche at over 220 km an hour (about 150 miles an hour). The Lamborghini driver hit a Volkswagen driven by a 70-year-old German pensioner, who received head injuries and is still in hospital.
Well-known Geneva-based lawyer Jacques Barillon, who will defend Babayev in a Swiss court, earlier told RIA Novosti that his client admitted that he caused the accident but denied his involvement in the race.
Investigators have not disclosed the names of the three other suspects, but media reports said two of the young racers were sons of Russian tycoon Telman Ismailov, who opened an ultra luxury hotel on Turkey's Mediterranean this summer.
