The death toll from Saturday's nightclub fire in the Russian Urals city of Perm has reached 125, the regional administration said.

The death toll from Saturday's nightclub fire in the Russian Urals city of Perm has reached 125, the regional administration said.

Another woman has died in a Perm hospital, the administration's press service said.

The fire engulfed the Lame Horse nightclub in the west Urals city in the early hours of Saturday after an indoor fireworks display went wrong. Over 100 people still remain in hospitals.

Perm Mayor Arkady Kats resigned on Wednesday over the deadly accident, the press service of the Mayor's Office said.

"My decision is connected with the tragic events, which took place in Perm on December 5, 2009, and the shock, which I suffered over these days, as well as every resident of the city," Kats said in a written address to the local parliament, adding he considered it impossible to resign earlier as he deemed it his duty to coordinate efforts aimed at helping those injured in the blaze.

The regional government of the Perm Territory also resigned earlier on Wednesday over the fire. The new government is expected to be formed as soon as the investigation into the cause of the fire and internal investigations are completed.

Three regional ministers, responsible for business and trade, urban development and public security, were sacked.

On Tuesday, Russian Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu sacked a chief fire inspector and six other officials in the Perm Territory over the incident.

Charges were brought on Monday against Lame Horse executive director Svetlana Yefremova, acting art director Oleg Fetkulov and co-owner of the club Anatoly Zak, as well as director of the Pirotsvet fireworks supplier Sergei Derbenev.

Checks are being conducted at nightclubs and other leisure and entertainment facilities across the country.
