Media should cooperate in the information space to avoid "silly and absurd stereotypes," the editor-in-chief of the Russia Today TV channel told a 2009 media forum in Moscow on Wednesday.
"We post TV-quality video on our website, which can be rebroadcasted," Margarita Simonyan said, adding that the videos can be downloaded for free.
Executive Director of the Baltic Forum Aleksander Vasilyev said the principal function of the media was not to entertain the public, but to contribute to the development of democratic society.
The Fourth European and Asian media forum opened in Moscow on Wednesday, bringing together more than 150 top media managers. This year's forum was organized by state-run Russian News & Information Agency RIA Novosti.
During the two-day event, journalists from other CIS and Baltic states will be able to meet their Russian colleagues, representatives of government institutions, well-known politicians and public figures during plenary sessions, panel discussions, round tables and sectional work in various media spheres.
