Some 150 builders, ice sculptors and architects will carve Russia's first ice hotel to be opened in the Arkhangelsk Region in the country's north on February 14, the organizers said on Monday.
The hotel, which is to be sculpted from 3,000 cubic meters of snow and 500 cubic meters of ice, will have nine rooms with indoor temperatures of around zero Centigrade (32 F), so sleeping bags will be offered to those guests who will dare to stay for the night. Artists will decorate the interior with ice and snow sculptures.
The hotel is also designed to house an exhibition hall, a 70-seat movie house, a gym, an ice bar and a wedding hall where several couples will take their icy-cold marriage vows on St. Valentine's Day.
The organizers expect to keep the unique hotel open until March 30. If the project wins acclaim, another ice hotel will be built in the region the following year as well.
