The Polish plane which crashed while trying to land in western Russia, killing the Polish president and other top officials, made only one attempt to land, the chairperson of the Interstate Aviation Committee said on Thursday.
"Media reports that the Polish plane made three or four attempts to land are false. I can say that there was only one landing attempt," Tatyana Anodina said.
She called on the public to avoid making opinions based on media reports.
"The work is ongoing; it is being carried out thoroughly and meticulously, and in full cooperation with the Polish side. After the work is complete, the commission will make the results public," she added.
A Soviet-made Tu-154 aircraft crashed when it attempted to land at Smolensk airport in thick fog on Saturday morning, killing all 97 people on board.
Russian investigators and Polish specialists are jointly investigating the causes of the deadly crash and Polish military prosecutors have opened their own investigation into the accident.
