One person died as an off-road vehicle crashed through the ice on eastern Siberia's Lake Baikal, an emergencies official said on Monday.
The incident happened in the north of the world's largest freshwater lake on Sunday evening, the spokesman said.
"The driver of a Land Cruiser Prado and his four passengers drove onto the ice. At a distance of 400 meters from the shore, the car plunged through the ice," he said, adding that they had all been drinking.
The driver and three passengers managed to escape from the vehicle.
Divers recovered the body of the dead passenger.
