Russia's State Duma approved in its third and final reading on Friday a law allowing criminal investigators to receive information about incoming and outgoing calls on the basis of a court decision.
The law establishes the procedure for obtaining information about subscribers' numbers and other data allowing investigators to identify a caller's whereabouts.
Permission to monitor calls can be granted for up to six months.
Evidence gathered in this manner can be used in cases against suspects.
