Two gang members face a life-long prison term after the court charged them with attempting to kill a police officer in Russia's easternmost province, Russian media said on Thursday.
Two police officers were killed and several others wounded in the Primorye Territory in Russia's Far East by members of the gang, known as Forest Brothers, investigators said.
Four suspected attackers were captured on June 10. Two of them were charged on Wednesday under Articles 317 (attempting to kill a police officer) and 33 (preparing for a crime and participating in it) of the Russian Criminal Code. The suspects may be sentenced to a 12-year-long or a life-long prison term if found guilty, media reports said.
The two other detainees are expected to be officially charged in the near future.
The gang, which reportedly involved 6 people, has operated in the Primorye Territory since February. Investigators were quoted by media reports as saying the attacks could have been acts of revenge for police abuse.
