Moscow will spend some 400 million rubles ($12.9 million) on computers for schools as part of a government program to improve children's computer skills, a source in the city administration said on Friday.
The program is to be introduced in Moscow's elementary schools from September 1, 2011.
Funding for the new computers, which will be bought for a total of 180 schools, will be allocated from Moscow's reserves.
Moscow First Deputy Mayor Ludmila Shvetsova earlier expressed concern about the health affects of the new program, which she said would result in children spending less time reading and playing sports.
