Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday invited German companies to participate in the modernization of Russian companies.
"I hope that German structures will participate in the modernization of [Russian] companies, which are interesting to them, taking into account my decision on reducing the number of strategic enterprises," Medvedev said at a meeting with representatives of German business circles.
President Medvedev and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are currently attending the Russian-German St. Petersburg Dialogue forum in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.
The president emphasized, that many Russian companies have been excluded from the list of the country's strategic enterprises and are being privatized, which makes steering investment into them much easier.
At the International Economic Forum in June, Medvedev signed a decree reducing fivefold the number of strategic companies which enjoy privileged state support, saying today's economy could not be built by the government orders.
