At least eight people were killed on Thursday in a blast at a market in Russia's North Caucasus city of Vladikavkaz, a spokesman for investigators said.
Many people were also injured, police at the scene said.
"There is a second car that may contain explosives. Evacuation has begun [from the market]," another police source said.
The market has seen two terrorist attacks in the past.
In November 2008, a bus was blown up by a suicide bomber at a nearby bus station, killing 12 people and injuring more than 40. In March 1999, an explosion killed over 50 people and left 300 injured.
The National Anti-terrorism Committee is also warning that there may be other explosive devices in the city, the capital of the republic of North Ossetia.
