Seven Russian fishermen on board a Belize-flagged ship in Vietnam have asked the Russian Sailors' Trade Union to help them return home after a months-long delay in salaries, the organization's head said on Thursday.
"The vessel is docked in the port of Vung Tau (southern Vietnam), the company's heads are not fulfilling their contract obligations," Nikolai Sukhanov said, adding that the sailors have not been paid their salaries for a period of five months to two years.
The fishing vessel's crew said in a statement that a "long-term absence of financing" made them "involuntary hostages of the company," Antel Investments Ltd., and that their relatives "have been left without sustenance."
