Russia and the U.S. will continue to cooperate in the fight against the Afghan drug threat, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday.
Lavrov made his statement during talks with U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Hanoi.
"We have expressed pleasure at the successful joint operation to fight drug trafficking in Afghanistan and noted that it is an example worth following," Lavrov said.
"We have agreed to continue the fight against drugs," he added.
Russian and U.S. anti-narcotics services carried out a joint operation to destroy four drug laboratories in Afghanistan earlier this week.
Afghan drug production has skyrocketed since the U.S.-led invasion toppled the Taliban in 2001.
Russia has been one of the countries most affected by the increase.
