Air passenger conveyance by Russian airlines is expected to hit 55 million people in 2010, a record figure for air passenger transportation in modern Russia, Transport Minister Igor Levitin said on Saturday.
"This is evidence of the correct pricing policy in air passenger carriages inside Russia and the support provided by the government during the crisis. This year, air transport will be the leader in carriages as the volume of air conveyance has increased by 30%," he said.
Levitin said the Russian transport sector was recovering to the pre-crisis level.
"Commercial cargo turnover by all kinds of transport will increase by 7.2% and passenger turnover by 5.5% in our estimate," Levitin said.
According to data of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, Russia's air transport conveyed 91 million passengers in 1990 and 51 million passengers in 2008.
