Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has pledged to allocate about $1 million for cosmetic repairs of an orphanage in central Russia.
Medvedev and his wife Svetlana visited the orphanage on Friday. The presidential couple presented it with a new computer classroom and a bus for Christmas.
"I will sign an instruction to provide money from the presidential fund for a facelift, about 30 million [rubles]," the president told the staff of orphanage No. 3 in the city of Ivanovo.
"The state's task is to make up for the absence of family for children. We cannot fully substitute it, but doing so in part is our duty," Medvedev said.
