The marketing director of a subsidiary of Russia’s state-controlled nuclear corporation Rosatom has been sacked for throwing a New Year’s party paid for with public funds, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin wrote in his blog on Tuesday.
Atomredmetzoloto’s acting CEO Tigran Khachaturov was officially reprimanded and other top managers were ordered to return the money spent on the party to the federal budget.
According to the Dozhd TV channel, the corporation paid 12.5 million rubles (about $400,000) for the New Year’s bash featuring Patricia Kaas and a line-up of Russian pop artists.
Rogozin said he had initiated an internal investigation into the report which confirmed that public funds had indeed been spent on the corporate event.
Atomredmetzoloto’s 12 top managers were ordered to pay for it out of their own pockets, each forking out around 1 million rubles.
