Muscovites are mourning the victims of twin rush-hour bomb attacks on the Moscow metro two years ago.

Forty people were killed and dozens more injured after two female suicide bombers blew themselves up at two subway trains on March 29, 2010.

Mourners have been paying their respects by laying flowers and lighting candles on the Park Kultury and Lubyanka stations, where the attacks occured.

The bombers were later identified as Dzhanet Abdurakhmanova, a 17-year-old widow of a senior militant from the North Caucasus, and Mariam Sharipova, a 28-year-old schoolteacher from the region's Dagestan republic.

Security on Moscow's metro network was tightened ahead of the anniversary after police received two bomb threats on Tuesday.
