A Russian Emergencies Ministry plane with the remains of Russian citizens, who were killed in the Sukhoi SuperJet 100 plane crash in Indonesia, will fly to Moscow on May 24, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“The Russian embassy will promptly prepare death certificates and accompanying documentation for the cargo. It is expected that … the remains of Russian citizens will fly from Jakarta to Ramenskoye on May 24,” the statement said.
Information about the deaths, from the hospital, embalming certificates, records of identification, and eight bodies of Russian citizens, have already been transferred to representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission, the report said.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) passenger jet slammed into the side of Indonesia’s Mount Salak shortly after takeoff on a demonstration flight on May 9. All 45 people on board were killed.
The cockpit voice recorder has been found, and its data is being decoded. The parametric flight data recorder has not been yet recovered from the crash site.
The Sukhoi Superjet is the first commercial plane designed and built in Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union two decades ago. It is considered by many in the industry to be Russia's last hope for maintaining a commercial aircraft manufacturing capability.
