Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has dismissed allegations that the U.S.- Russian relations have deteriorated as of late over a range of issues, including Washington’s plans to build missile defense systems near Russian borders.

“I believe that the past few years in the history of U.S.-Russian relations have been the most productive,” Medvedev said in an interview with the Times newspaper in London, where he attended the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 27. The Times published the interview on Monday.

“I don’t think that we have entered any ‘new’ period, that Russia has taken a harsher stance toward the United States (as the media sometimes put it), that our priorities have changed and that the ‘reset’ has winded down without any results. This is absolutely wrong,” he said.

He hailed U.S. President Barack Obama for helping Russia enter the World Trade Organization (WTO) after some 18 years of complicated negotiations.

“I will always be grateful to Barack Obama for taking an honest position,” Medvedev said.

“Once, I remember, we were sitting in a car, talking without an interpreter, and he said: ‘You know, I will help you enter the WTO.’ And he did this. Such things cannot be forgotten. This means he keeps his word,” the Russian prime minister said.

Russia officially joined the WTO on July 21, becoming the 154th member of the global trade club when President Vladimir Putin signed the relevant bill into law.

Medvedev admitted that “real differences” still exist between Moscow and Washington on a range of issues, including the U.S. European missile shield plans, and warned that failure to reach an agreement on the issue by 2018 could lead to a new arms race.

Nevertheless, “nothing bad, nothing extraordinary has happened” to Russia’s relations with the United States, and any suggestions about such “changes” are mainly inspired by ideological considerations, he said.

“Everything’s OK,” he added.

Besides differences on the missile defense issue, Russia and the United States have failed to find common ground on Syria, with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov frequently arguing over who is to blame for the continuing violence in the Middle Eastern country.

Another major sticking point in bilateral ties is the Magnitsky Act, which is currently under consideration in the U.S. Congress. The bill would impose travel bans and asset freezes on Russian and other foreign officials believed to be responsible for human rights violations.

The bill is named after Russian anti-corruption lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who died in pre-trial detention at a Moscow prison in November 2009. Officials say Magnitsky failed to receive proper medical treatment and died as a result of complications from untreated pancreatitis and a heart condition.

U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul told the Russian online daily Gazeta.ru last week that the White House considers the bill redundant, as there is already an official list of Russian officials banned from entering the United States because of alleged human rights abuses.

How can everything be ok in Russian and American relationship?
This is nothing but a distorted and a total lack of foresight and history by the Ex president no wonder the West likes him they can twist his little finger.
If we were look up the word OK and the meaning in any language or senescence then the Ex president needs not even think of been the Russian President again in fact he is not strong enough to deal with the West.

And if the EX president thinks so then I am sure the Americans have a total different view of relations with Russia.
The Americans and the West is trying to push Russia out of the Middle East and Asia and he says all is ok.

In fact, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, current Russian - American relationship is at its lowest.

Begining with the 5-day war to force Georgia to peace, through the European missile defence issue, through the Western attempt to incite social unrest in Russia, through the NATO's support of international terrorism and invasion of Libya, ending with the situation in Syria and threats to attack Iran - the relationship between Russia and the U.S. is at the Cold War level and at the edge of military conflict.

I don't know why Mr. Medvedev sees it differently and refuses to recognize the obvious crisis. His opinion is contrary to recent statements made by Foreign Minister Lavrov and other Russian officials.

"I don't know why Mr. Medvedev sees it differently and refuses to recognize the obvious crisis. His opinion is contrary to recent statements made by Foreign Minister Lavrov and other Russian officials."

The answer is not complicated, economic levers on the part of the the Devil's Minions in Washington.

The U.S. and its Wart NATO control the world economies and now since Russia is a capitalist country feigning bullshit democracy it finds itself walking a tight rope, doing lots of talk but accomplishing little when it comes to standing up to as the Muslims put it, "The GREAT SATAN" for fear it may pass more Jackson-Vanik and McCain anti Russian bills in Congress and convince the NATO sycophants not to deal with Russia. This is nothing new for the western fascist, shortly after the 1917 revolution invaded Russia and when the Red Army drove them out they placed trade embargoes upon trade embargoes to isolate her. This lasted till the end of WW II.

They the Wall Street 'Banksters' and Gangsters shit their pants when Papa Joe's Red Army crushed the combined forces of the western Nazis. They were putting their hopes on Hitler. This shitting of their pants is why they instigated the Cold War propaganda by once again isolating Russia as much as possible. They used economic levers as weapons of war.

TODAY THEY ARE STILL AT IT, in case you have not noticed! America and its Wart will not stop until Russia is in the Libyan and Syrian condition. That is the plan, plain and simple, but it will be effective unless Russia stands up, points a finger at the conspiracy and screams a resounding "NYET" from a position of "..Nyi odin shag nazad..." (..not one step back..)

It must do that with the steely eyed and iron will of Joseph Stalin. That is the only thing fascists understand...

I think it may have to do with the US elections. But, I have been living many years in the US, and I'm not sure that Obama will have more chances to be reelected after that statement by the prime minister Medvedev, even though that may have been the intention.
        • PlutardsPrinting Money Versus Commerce Itself
          00:28, 31/07/2012
The way that the United States and the Russian Federation see the global economy differs somehow. The CURRENCY for the USA is an INTERFACE, a big transition, as Dollar paper bills that can simulate, that emulate business, and commmerce transactions cannot mean business "as a whole", forming, in this way, an abyss between paper money bills and "TRUE" business. The Russian concept involves more business, commerce, in itself and does not mind much about the Dollar bills or reserves coming after, just the business maneuver, step-by-step and not going through speculation. America counts with the alibi that it has the only international reserve of the globe and that the USA Dollar can substitute any business venture while Russia thinks that the BUSINESS ACTION in itself can be much more important than the mere PRINTING OF MONEY that is done by the United States currency, the Dollar. For the USA the Dollar has a lot to do with the values of the economy attributed to it, but Russia deals with BUSINESS ITSELF, like commodities coming from the field in pipelines that can be even considered to be an alternative currency.

The main problem with the US currency, at least in the US, is that it is necessary to pay your taxes and any US$ denominated debts.

What you say here is talking about barter; which Russians under Communism appear to be much more adept at, than Americans in the USA.

It is like you have one group of people who are always buyers of things with US$, and you have another completely different group who are sellers of things in US$; and neither can cross over because of specialization.

But, if you say Russia is not that highly specialized yet, and people can play both sides and be both a buyer and seller of things; then yes you can take barter a long way there, and much farther than in the US.
        • TimRUS-Russian Relations? - It depends on who you talk to.

I think this assessment may be a bit on the rosy side, but at the same time, I do not believe the relationship between the United States and Russia is on the decline. The long term trend is positive, and has been for a number of years.

A better way of saying this might be that the -internal- divisions existing in both our nations are of somewhat more importance, and more threatening to overall stability than the conflicts that exist between them. Russians may tend to forget that our nation, the United States, is every bit as much as internally divided as Russia, with the political extremes drifting farther apart, to the point of being unable to genuinely communicate or compromise with each other.

Then there is the Magnitsky act - I think many Russians might misunderstand what is actually going on in the US Congress, and why this bill is so important to them. It has little to do with the Magnitsky case, or human rights. It makes no foreign policy sense, is redundant, and doesn't seem to have any mechanism of legal 'due process' associated with it. More interesting, there is no great movement among the American people for this bill, it is Congressmen and women themselves who are enthusiastic about it!

As the world becomes more economically integrated, there is a sense of loss of global influence in the United States Congress. The Magnitsky act represents a political concession; a mechanism by which any congressional body large enough to be considered a quorum can pass judgement on the world around them - They can behave as though they were seated at the Hague, or overseeing prosecution at the Nuremberg trials. It is about congressional prestige, image and influence, not human rights. This is the reason it doesn't make any sense to many outside Washington.

The end result is this debate is likely to stall the trade bill in congress until long after Russia has made most of it's trade deals with Europe and Asia. Our nation will lose as a consequence.

Of course, from the American perspective, Russia is involved in it's own nonsense. The Russian Federation has one of the strongest military forces in the world, and highly advanced weapon systems, yet each week, there is a new article about some fancy tactical system, submarine, missile launcher. Clearly, the reason these articles are written, is they are articles important to Russians that they want to read. Are these weapon systems really about national defense, or are they actually about Russian prestige?

If they are really about prestige, maybe it would be better to sacrifice one or two of these multibillion Ruble projects in favor of rebuilding Russia's Olympic training program.

          "..no great movement..."

There is no movement on any issue unless that movement is generated and controlled by the filthy lucre moneybag lobbies who control Congress. The American people are constantly being fed a prolific diet of propaganda to the point where they cannot tell you where Africa is. Case in point, Sarah Palin, vice presidential candidate thought Africa was a country..She also state in public in Boston on open camera that this was were Paul Revere rode to warn the British that the Americans were coming....Hahahaha...!!! Truly ignorance must be bliss!!!...and I do not want to get into the phoney war hero McCain and who pulls his wire...

There has been since the Reagan years an internal conspiracy to defraud every American's right to question the powers to be.
True liberal democracy is about accountability not about voting every four years. Congress is accountable only to the Wall Street Zionist Masters. That conspiracy by the way had its gestation period in the incessant Red Scare propaganda of the McCarthy era which was truly a Big Red Herring as history has proven. If American mythology is to be believed, then what can be more un-American than a Committee for Un-American Activities?

Reminds me of the line in Steinbeck's novel 'The Grapes of Wrath' where the lead character says...," What are these Reds the keep accusing us of being simply because we are poor and want a job?"

Steinbeck says it all for that is what American foreign policy has been based on since the spontaneous, populist Russian Revolution of 1917. The bankers, the corporate state which controls the powers of corridor in Washington has had and will continue to have no other foreign policy toward Russia unless the American people take back the government created by Jefferson and Hamilton..

The creation of the ultra right lunatic fringe of the Republican Party and the destruction of Lincoln's party is but another internal conspiracy and propaganda coupe. Amachine to have the American people constantly and persistently vote against their own interests. The destruction of the educational system for the poor is no accident. The lack of the rule of law in dealing with major fraud and corruption in the theft of billions possibly trillions is no accident..Eighty-seven percent of the wealth of the American nation is controlled by five percent of the population and THAT is also no accident. Hmm...!!! Let us guess who is that five percent and what their true but hidden agenda is all about....Hmm...!!! I wonder??? :-)
