A group of unknown activists hung a banner “with the symbols of extremist organizations” opposite the Kremlin in Moscow, police said on Thursday.

MOSCOW, January 10 (RIA Novosti) – A group of unknown activists hung a banner “with the symbols of extremist organizations” opposite the Kremlin in Moscow, police said on Thursday.

The police discovered the banner, displaying an unspecified slogan and symbols, on a bridge facing the Kremlin walls around 5 a.m. on Wednesday and took it down.

A picture circulating on Twitter shows the hanging banner with several logos, including those of the banned National Bolshevik Party and the ruling United Russia party, and reads: "Extremist Organizations of Russia".

There were no activists present at the scene, the police said, although they found a news reporter taking pictures of the banner.

“He was invited to the police station for questioning, and was later released,” a police spokesperson told RIA Novosti.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the action.

Similar events have taken place in the past in the Russian capital. Last February, a group of opposition activists erected a black-and-yellow banner with a picture of then-Prime Minister Vladimir Putin crossed out with an X opposite the Kremlin.
