MOSCOW, July 21 (RIA Novosti) -Russia and Europe have agreed to launch a joint space-based antenna project to explore outer space, a spokesman for the Russia's space agency said Friday.
"The 12-meter deployable antenna is designed to conduct exploration of processes in space and to transmit information to Earth," Igor Panarin said on the sidelines of the Farnborough International Airshow, which is under way in southern England.
Panarin said the agreement was a result of negotiations between Director Anatoly Perminov with senior officials from Alcatel Alenia Space, a joint venture of France's Alcatel and Italy's Finmeccanica and a contractor of the European Space Agency.
He said the officials had also agreed that Alcatel Alenia Space would continue to provide electronics for Russian satellites, including the new Express-AM series of communications satellites.
