MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has begun mass production of two vaccines for the swine flu virus, a deputy health minister said on Tuesday.
Veronika Skvortsova said production started on Monday with at least 35.5 million single doses of vaccine to be produced by the end of the year. She said the vaccines had already undergone clinical trials to ensure they were safe.
"No side effects have been reported and all test participants feel fine," she said, adding that in late October the vaccine will be tested on children and teenagers.
Earlier on Tuesday, Russia's top sanitary official announced there were 591 confirmed swine flu cases in the country, against 570 two days ago.
A total of 340,000 cases of the swine flu have been confirmed throughout the world and 4,100 people had died from the virus as of September 27.
