MOSCOW, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prosecutor-General Vladimir Ustinov suggested that the Russian Government should sign international agreements with those countries whose citizens adopt Russian children, the Russian Prosecutor-General's Office said Wednesday.

The purpose of the proposed agreements is to control the status of the adopted children and to prevent acts of violence against them.

Ustinov made this proposal because of increasing acts of violence against Russian orphans adopted by foreigners.

According to official data, 13 adopted Russian children were killed abroad, 12 of them in the US.

Apparently, the proposal was timed to the ongoing court hearings in Illinois, US. Irma Pavlis has been charged with manslaughter of her adopted Russian son. RIA Novosti was told in court that a verdict is expected today.

The Pavlis spouses adopted Russian boy Alexei Geiko in 2003 from

an orphanage. Six weeks after he moved to the US, on December 18, the boy was taken to hospital unconscious and died a day after.

Irma Pavlis admitted that she had beaten him up.

She may be sentenced to a term in prison from three to 14 years.
