Russia will launch a program to develop regional healthcare next year, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Monday.
The program aims to carry out "a large scale modernization and re-outfitting of healthcare facilities throughout Russia," he said.
The mandatory medical insurance program will also be substantially amended, in particular enabling the patient to choose a doctor, healthcare provider and insurance company, he said.
Special priority will be given to disease prevention, Putin added.
"Before the end of this year another 190 facilities will be opened - especially for children and teenagers," the prime minister said.
