MOSCOW, July 5 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Swimming Federation approved Wednesday prize money for Russian swimmers who win medals or set records at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the federation's president said.
"Financial motivation is necessary to achieve results," Sergei Naryshkin said. "We believe that it is not the main motivation, but a considerable incentive."
Naryshkin said that $50,000 would be paid for gold, $30,000 for silver and $15,000 for bronze. He said an additional $15,000 would be paid for a new world record, $5,000 for a European record and $1,000 for a Russian record.
