* At the 4th FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships in Naples, Italy (ended September 3):

- Natalya Pankina won silver in the 25km open water women's swimming competition in 6h 22m 47.8s, finishing just 0.9s behind winner Angela Maurer (Germany). Her teammate, Kseniya Popova, took bronze in 6h 22m 51.3s

- Yury Kudinov won silver in the 25km open water men's swimming competition in 5h 48m 56.9s. Josh Santacaterina (Australia) won gold in 5h 47m 34.1s and Petar Stoychev (Bulgaria) took bronze in 5h 49m 00.2s.

* At the Ceska Pojistovna Cup in the Czech Republic, the first of four tournaments in the Euro Hockey Tour, an unofficial European championships involving Europe's top four teams:

- Russia won the tournament, beating the Czech Republic 4:3 on the last day, and leads the Tour with eight points.

* Russia's national basketball team lost to Belgium 80:91 in a Group C away qualifier for the EuroBasket-2007 in Spain.

* Russian soccer champions CSKA Moscow has jumped by 28 places to world No.36 in the latest Club World Ranking, announced monthly by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). Two other Russian teams are ranked in the top-100: Zenit St. Petersburg (60, down from 52), and Lokomotiv Moscow (93, down from 69). The other two teams representing Russia in the European cups, Spartak Moscow and Rubin Kazan, are ranked 112 (up from 167) and 198 (up from 401)
