QUEBEC CITY, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia have beaten Switzerland 6-0 to progress to the semifinals of the World Hockey Championships in Canada.
Switzerland put two pucks in their own net in the opening stages of the game in Quebec City as Russia went on to destroy their opponents.
Russia will now play Finland in the semifinals on May 16. The game is a repeat of last year's World Championship game at the same stage, which Russia lost 2-1. The second semifinal will see Canada take on Sweden.
The final is scheduled for May 18.
Russia has not won the World Championship since 1993.
